Intensive therapy & Retreats

Helping adults put the past to rest and get back to feeling like themselves…fast.

Weekly therapy isn’t always the right answer.

Maybe you’ve tried it and find that every time you’re starting to make some progress, your 50 minutes is up, and the next session feels like starting all over. Perhaps you’ve never even tried it because your busy schedule simply doesn’t afford you the flexibility in your schedule to commit to weekly sessions over a long period, whereas therapy intensives can achieve significant change over a short period.

You might be here because:

  • You need a cost-effective approach to therapy

  • A recent event has shaken your sense of stability or safety

  • Traditional weekly therapy hasn’t delivered the results you need

  • You’re ready for real change, tired of incremental, inconsistent progress

Whether you're an adult ready to finally break unhelpful patterns in your life, a stressed-out parent or professional craving balance and connection, or an entrepreneur battling imposter syndrome and self-doubt…please know change is possible. With intensives, it can happen in a way that works for you and your already-busy schedule.

What is Intensive Therapy?

Understanding the core principles and approach of intensive therapy.

Intensive therapy is a concentrated and immersive form of therapy designed to accelerate the healing process and promote rapid progress. Unlike traditional weekly therapy, which can sometimes feel fragmented, intensive therapy offers extended therapy sessions that allow for a deeper dive into the issues at hand. This approach is ideal for individuals and couples seeking to address specific concerns or goals in a shorter period. By dedicating a concentrated amount of time to therapy, clients can experience significant emotional processing, insight, and growth in a much shorter period. This method is particularly effective for those who are ready to make substantial changes and experience healing more quickly.

How intensive therapy works

Intensives are concentrated therapy sessions designed to deliver accelerated results.

  • Therapy intensives help clients go deeper and get results faster. Rather than stopping and starting in 1-hour blocks every week, intensives allow you to set aside a larger chunk of time to do the deep work necessary to achieve real, long-lasting change. This is a cutting-edge, research-backed approach to therapy. Our work together will be focused, in-depth, and personalized to you & your goals.

  • Intensives encompass a number of different sessions and avenues for support. We’ll customize each of the following based on your needs:

    • Consult: We’ll start with a 20-minute consultation call to ensure this model is the right fit for you, and that I’m the right counselor to support you. During this time, we’ll also determine the length and number of intensive sessions you are likely to need. This can always be adjusted later, if needed.

    • Pre-Intake: You’ll complete a detailed intake packet sharing about your background, current challenges, and goals.

    • Intake Session: We’ll meet for a 50-minute intake session to review additional information and create a detailed plan, including goals and outcome measures to ensure we can accurately track your progress.

    • Plan: I’ll craft a customized plan combining both talk therapy, Brainspotting, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy to help you achieve deep healing.

    • Intensive Session(s): We’ll meet for the selected number of sessions. They can occur in-person in my office in Roseville, on-site at a vacation rental or other venue within a 15-mile radius of Granite Bay, or online anywhere in CA and TX.

    • (Optional) Post-Intensive Session: To measure your progress, debrief, and ensure you feel well-equipped to integrate your new insights into daily life, we can meet for an optional 50-minute post-intensive session.

    • A detailed intake questionnaire

    • An interactive intensive treatment workbook (much like a personal workbook to collect your thoughts before, during, and after)

    • A customized plan incorporating Brainspotting, accelerated resolution therapy, and relational talk therapy suited to your goals and desired outcomes

    • Specialized support every step of the way

How Intensive Therapy Works

A closer look at the process for individuals and couples.

The journey of intensive therapy begins with a consultation with a trained therapist to determine if this approach is the right fit for you. Once it’s established that intensive therapy is suitable, a personalized plan is crafted to meet your unique needs. This plan may include a combination of therapeutic approaches such as EMDR, somatic experiencing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and experiential components. The intensive therapy sessions themselves are designed to be immersive experiences, allowing you to fully engage with your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Throughout the process, the therapist creates a safe and supportive environment, facilitating deep work and skill building. This concentrated time allows for more profound insights and quicker progress compared to traditional therapy.

Faster results. Fewer dollars.

Intensives are investments in your overall wellbeing—and, believe it or not, often come out less expensive than traditional therapy. In a single 3-hour intensive, you can accomplish what is likely to take months of weekly therapy. At $200 or $300/session, this adds up quickly.

When you choose an intensive, you’re not just saving money—you’re saving time, too. This model is focused on spending focused, concentrated time on the deep work that’s actually going to result in change in your day-to-day life.

What to Expect from an Intensive Therapy Session

Preparing for your intensive therapy experience.

Preparing for an intensive therapy session involves setting aside dedicated time for self-reflection, journaling, or meditation to help you connect with your emotions and thoughts. During the session, you can expect a combination of talk therapy, experiential exercises, and skill-building activities tailored to your specific needs and goals. The therapist will guide you through the process, providing support and guidance as needed. After the session, you may experience a sense of relief, renewed energy, and a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships. It’s essential to commit to the process, allowing yourself the time and space to integrate the insights and changes into your daily life. This commitment to the intensive therapy process can lead to lasting and meaningful change.

Interested in an immersive experience? I also offer retreats.

You can travel to the Roseville, CA area for a therapeutic retreat, with sessions held in my office or on-site at vacation rentals within a 15-mile radius of Granite Bay.

A retreat isn’t just about therapy.

Your time here is designed to help you reset, with everything carefully planned to support your journey. I’ve put together a guide covering how the retreat works, what to bring, and ways to make this a truly therapeutic experience beyond our sessions.

  • The process begins with a personal consultation to determine if an Intensive Therapy Retreat is a good fit and whether this model can effectively address your concerns. After the consultation, we’ll create a personalized plan, including the recommended retreat length. Typically, an intensive retreat lasts 3 days, but some clients prefer multiple one-day retreats over time. We’ll work together to create a schedule that supports your goals. Each day, I’ll meet with you for a 6-hour block (usually 9 am-3 pm), with breaks for lunch and rest as needed. I may also suggest activities for you to work on independently. Throughout our time, you can expect a blend of talk therapy, Brainspotting, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy, all tailored to foster deep healing. To track your progress and ensure you’re ready to move forward, we can schedule an optional 50-minute post-intensive session. If you’re working with another therapist, I’m happy to collaborate to enhance your experience.

I offer sessions ranging from 3 to 5 hours, with packages designed to suit your needs—whether that’s one day or up to four days of intensive therapy. Throughout our time together, you can expect a blend of talk therapy, Brainspotting, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy, all tailored to help you achieve deep healing.

To measure your progress and ensure you feel equipped to move forward, we can schedule an optional 50-minute post-intensive session. If you’re currently working with another therapist, I’m happy to collaborate with them to enhance your experience.

  • I encourage out-of-town guests to use their intensive therapy retreat as an opportunity to create a well-rounded, therapeutic experience. Frequently asked questions

  • A Therapy Intensive is an accelerated form of therapy designed to help clients go deeper and get results faster. Instead of attending therapy one hour per week for a year, why not carve out a few days for Therapy Intensives? It's a cutting-edge approach to help people feel better faster.

In fact, many people think of Therapy Intensives like a retreat. For those few days, you can unplug, take time off work, get a babysitter, or even stay in a hotel. This time is completely dedicated to you so you can focus on healing, reflecting, and reconnecting.

  • Therapy Intensives are perfect for people that are ready for relief now. If you’re ready to see things change in your life and your relationships but you don’t want to wait for that to happen next year - a Therapy Intensive may be right for you. If you have a specific topic, trauma, or stressor that you want support with - this can be the focus of your Therapy Intensive. The dedicated time will be customized specifically to you and your goals.

  • Yes! Couples who find themselves stuck in the same conflict patterns or feel like they never really reach resolutions are a great fit for intensives.

  • Therapy Intensives are more effective and efficient than normal 50-minute therapy sessions. Typically in a 50-minute session, there are at least 5-10 minutes of “check-in” at the start and usually, 5-10 minutes spent on “closing up” or “checking out” at the end of a session - Leaving only 30-40 minutes for deep therapeutic work. However, a 3-hour Therapy Intensive allows for 2.5 hours of depth work. That’s the equivalent of five 50-minute sessions or more than a month of therapy - in a single day!

  • Absolutely! Therapy Intensives work very well as an adjunct therapy. I would ask that you sign a Release of Information so that your current therapist and I can collaborate/coordinate to best serve you.

  • Therapy Intensives are not covered by insurance. However, if you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may reimburse a portion of the costs. It’s best to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to learn the details about your specific plan. I am happy to provide some helpful questions to ask your insurance during our consultation call.
